Emily

I was born and raised in Charleston, daughter of Clarence and Linda Miller, the original owners of Clarence Miller Insurance – now Tomco Insurance, after my husband Paul Tomshack and I took over from my parents in 2018. Paul and I met in high school band (he played trombone, I played saxophone) over 20 years ago and we’ve been together ever since.

We moved to Bremerton, Washington in 2008 while Paul was in the Navy, and as much as we loved living in the mountains, the grueling experience of submarine life helped solidify our priorities going forward. We knew we wanted to raise our kids surrounded by family, so after four years in the Pacific Northwest, we packed everything back home to Charleston and began working at the family business.

While Paul was a natural fit at parsing through obscure insurance details, I am more of a creative soul myself, so I have carved out a niche for myself as our Marketing Coordinator. I make the graphics, take the pictures, and write a lot of the verbiage you see in our newsletters, ads, and website. I’m always looking for new ways to show the world that our agency’s best asset really is the wonderful people who work here – and what a great team we’ve got!

Paul and I have two kids, Emma (12) and Lucas (9), who keep us very busy with school, piano lessons, soccer practice, Boy Scouts, and horse riding lessons. Emma is always writing stories, Lucas is always building things, and it feels like there’s always something happening at our house. On the weekends, we make sure to set aside time for a weekly board game night, and we try to get out into nature as often as we can by hiking, kayaking, fishing, and biking as a family.

When I’m not working or “Mom”ing, I love to pass the hours reading, making art (sewing, painting, playing piano, drawing, graphic design, photography.. etc), playing games like The Legend of Zelda, nerding out about architecture, history, foreign languages, or great travel ideas, and savoring the good life over a cup of fresh-brewed coffee in the morning, a glass of red wine with cheese in the afternoon, or any kind of pasta dish for dinner. :)
